Sydney’s Central Coast Dish Hand Artist Residency

The following works are from a self appointed artist residency program that I have been taking part in over the past few weeks. I found myself knee deep in dishpiggery, helping my brother out at his newly opened cafe on Sydney’s central coast, but rather than wallow in the sink, bathing myself in altruistic familiar glory, I decided to make something of it.

An experimentation with two commonly used languages. These experiments reshape the dialogue that takes place between hand gesture and speech. Using motion tracking technologies the work reveals aesthetic relationships that could not normally be seen.

Breathe

Breathe is the first networked installation that is being built as part of the upcoming mindfulness application Compos(ur)e. The application is inspired by Buddhist monk and poet Thich Nhat Hanh’s practices of incorporating mindfulness into everyday experiences, in particular the practice of turning elements of the world we encounter into ‘bells of mindfulness’.

Come Together Now

Come Together Now uses recorded sound and technology as an invitation rather than a mediation of entertainment. The aim of this work is to bring people together with a pre-recorded sound composition, remove the recorded sounds as they sit down, leaving them with their own space to create a musical experience.
